10)The Dawn of ISO

 October of 1946.

The current ISO was initiated in aim
to “promote the international integration of industrial standards.”

This was in the early days after the tragedy which devastated the world,

14 months after Japan lost the war.

Cities all over Japan were burnt to the ground.
Industry was what had emerged despite the misery.
Primary goals were:

“Industrial revival”
and
“Recovery of exports”

The miraculous recovery by the country who lost everything.

One of its key players was “iron.”

Producing “iron” out of dirt-cheap imported “stones.”

Then, manufacturing and exporting value-added industrial products
その「鉄」を、
such as “ships” and “automobiles,” using that “iron.”

Creating something from nothing.
An industry given birth by the Japanese wisdom.

“Made in JAPAN” then was labeled as
“cheap and nasty.”
