9)Examples of PDCA
As mentioned in the previous number,
the PDCA cycle can be used in all sizes.
From large scaled applications for the entire organization
to small scaled tasks
【Example】
■A company plans “an event” (Plan)
■The event is carried out according to this plan (Do)
■Any occurrences of problems or mistakes?
The actual numbers based on supervising and collection is compared against the
plan.
And the gap is analyzed to identify the cause. (Check)
■The revealed cause is improved (Action)
Continuing to deliver the “event” with this repeated cycle of “PDCA,” will bring about a thorough improvement.
That was an example of using it in a larger scale.
It goes without saying that a PDCA cycle by each participating individual
exists as well.
■An individual participates in the event, and defines task priorities (Plan)
■Carries out the operation in such order (Do)
■Confirms progress and re-examines issues (Check)
■Improves operations and actualizes lessons learned in the future (Action)
Continuous improvement plays an important role in both cases.
And time line differs of course depending on the scale of PDCA usage.
Hence the significance of deciding the best timing for the cycle.
Those which require real-time response,
and such which need longer time to address.
With the same “improvement,”
“so many opinions.”
Those involved should know the best.
Looking back,
we have talked about product standards to quality assurance.
Let’s take a look at its relationship.
